Student Opportunities Grants

Grants of up to £100 are available to support career enhancing opportunities for students.

Stand out from a competitive field by undertaking educational initiatives outside of your studies, with the support of a Student Opportunities Grant. Available to Undergraduate or Postgraduate Members of the Biochemical Society, we offer small amounts of funding (up to £100) to assist with extracurricular, molecular bioscience-based projects that enable students to develop skills and boost your CV.

Example projects can include, but are not limited to:

  • Science communication e.g., creation of a blog, YouTube series, magazine, podcast etc
  • Developing molecular bioscience related resources or materials which are not a compulsory part of your coursework
  • Student society events and activities
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Summer schools or courses (not provided as part of your degree course)

All projects or opportunities must have a molecular bioscience focus and take place outside of your compulsory studies e.g., cannot be provided by your University or form part of your degree.

Please note that this scheme does not accept applications for undergraduate summer placement support and applicants are invited to consider our Summer Vacation Studentships instead.

This experience was incredibly rewarding, contributing significantly to the growth of The Oxford Scientist and my personal development. It also underscored the importance of effective science communication and served as a platform for aspiring scientists to showcase their talents.
